Answer the four most commonly asked questions

Zbirni center invazivnih tujerodnih rastlin

You have spotted an invasive non-native plant in your garden. What can you do about it?

Remove the plant as soon as possible (pluck, cut, dig out or saw it off). While doing that, you need to make sure not to spread plant parts (roots or seeds) since a new plant might grow out of them, making the spread of the invasive plant even more rapid. All plant parts need to be discarded carefully: parts from which a new plant cannot grow might be composted, while others need to be brought to the collection centre at Povšetova ulica for incineration.

The term Invasive non-native plant species refers to plants that human has (un)intentionally brought outside of their natural habitat. Invasive plants negatively affect living conditions of indigenous species and generally have a negative impact on nature, economy and people’s health. Today they are considered as one of the greatest threats of the biotic diversity.

Where do the removed invasive plants go?

At the collection centre at Povšetova ulica a designated area that handles invasive non-native plat plants has been set up.

Various invasive non-native plants should be collected in designated bins, all equipped with images of plants that are to be discarded in the very bin.

Make sure that you get familiar with the procedure of handling these plants prior to bringing them to our collection centre. Click here.
